ANÁLISIS DE LOS ANILLOS DE CRECIMIENTO EN LEÑOS FÓSILES DE CONÍFERAS DE LA FORMACIÓN LA MESETA, ISLA SEYMOUR (MARAMBIO), ANTÁRTIDA

Resumen

Fossil wood was found in the Eocene-Oligocene La Meseta Formation in Seymour (Marambio) Island, Antarctic Peninsula. Dendrochronological methods are used to study fossil wood of Cupressinoxylon seymourense Torres, Marenssi and Santillana and Podocarpoxylon sp. A. Analyses of the well-preserved growth patterns have yielded important information about periodicity of growth. They most closely resemble some species of living trees that grow in temperate areas with marked cool and warm seasons.
