This report summarizes some historical landmarks that shaped the development of paleontology in general and paleoherpetology in particular, in the province of Córdoba, Argentina. A chronological order is used to locate the main events that involve the actions of the members of the Compañía de Jesús since the 17th century (creation of the Colegio Mayor, from which the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba emerges in 1613) until the current studies on fossil vertebrates. Undoubtedly, paleontology in Córdoba was characterized by the study of mammals conducted by non-resident researchers in the province. This situation was modified with the recent beginning of a team of non-mammalian vertebrate paleontologists that from the institutions settled within the province, are dedicated to the study of archosaurs.
