PRIMER REGISTRO PALINOLÓGICO DE LA FORMACIÓN PUNTA NEGRA (DEVÓNICO MEDIO-SUPERIOR), DE LA PRECORDILLERA DE SAN JUAN, ARGENTINA
Abstract
This paper presents the first palynological record of the Punta Negra Formation, Devonian from the San Juan Precordillera, Argentina. Twelve acritarchs species, 11 spores species, 5 prasinophyte species, 2 chitinozoans genera and one incertae sedis were recognized in two palynological assemblages of the Quebrada de Talacasto locality. Some of these are placed in open nomenclature due to their poor preservation. These assemblages would be assigned to the Middle Devonian (Eifelian to Givetian) and Givetian-Frasnian boundary. The abundance of organic matter of terrestrial origin would indicate a deltaic paleoenvironment.
