Resumen

A modern pollen dispersion-deposition model is proposed in relation to vegetation for the pampean steppe as a basis for the analogical interpretation of fossil pollen sequences. Thirty-six surface soil samples were taken between 35° and 39°S and 59° and 63°W. The vegetation data were derived from published maps of the Buenos Aires Province. Multivariate analysis was used in order to compare soil surface samples and to study its relationship with the vegetation distribution. The statistical analysis showed a basic similarity between the pollen data structure and the vegetation distribution in the Buenos Aires Province. Principal Components Analysis and Cluster Analysis showed the division between the grassland steppe and the ecotone steppe-xerophytic scrub and inland Pampa. Differences between steppe edaphic communities are also evident.
